The Isan Table draws inspiration from the complex relationships and hierarchies found within traditional Japanese family structures. Its name is derived from a Japanese word associated with heritage, establishing the conceptual foundation for the design.
These relationships are expressed through the table’s structural arrangement and the positioning of its individual shelving elements. Some connections are immediately apparent, while others emerge through closer examination of the composition.
The resulting design translates an abstract cultural concept into a functional architectural object. Shown in walnut, the Isan Table uses the natural character of wood and the relationship between its structural components to communicate its underlying design philosophy.
